Emerging Technology in Breast Biopsy Efficiency

Stacy Smith-Foley, MD
Medical Director
The Breast Center at CARTI
Little Rock, AR

In this CME presentation, Dr. Smith-Foley will discuss how technology evolves in breast imaging, the ability to detect small early-stage cancers improves. The importance of making an accurate tissue diagnosis of these early cancers is essential for successful patient outcomes. Minimally invasive diagnostic biopsy procedures, such as fine-needle aspirations, core needle biopsies, and vacuum-assisted biopsies have replaced previous surgical/excisional methods. In this webinar, there will be a focus on stereotactic vacuum-assisted biopsies with real-time specimen imaging with collection and separation. Case examples will be reviewed to highlight these technologies working together to demonstrate improved workflow efficiencies.

Upon completion of this lecture, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the benefits of incorporating real-time specimen radiography into the breast biopsy operatory
  • Understand how emerging technology and technique improves efficiency and accuracy when collecting core samples
  • Optimize pathology workflow using specimen radiography and interdisciplinary collaboration
